ITINERARY
Day 01 Arrival in Chennai
Meet our representative upon arrival in Chennai - the capital city of Tamil Nadu is sited on the Coromandel Coast of the Bay of Bengal. It has played a very crucial role in the traditional, historical and academic growth of the country, representing the different elements of the highest variety of the Dravidian civilization. Also, considered as the cultural hub of South India which is famous for its affluent heritage in classical dance, music, architecture, sculpture, crafts, etc. After reaching, proceed to hotel and check-in for overnight stay.
Day 02 Drive from Chennai – Mahabalipuram (65 kms / approx. 1.30 hours)
Drive to Mahabalipuram - the major seaport of the ancient Pallava kingdom based at Kanchipuram, and a wander round the town’s great, World Heritage–listed temples and carvings inflames the imagination, especially at sunset. Take an excursion to Kanchipuram - Visit the Ekambaranatha Temple, Vaishnavite Vaikunta Perumal Temple, Varadharaja Perumal Temple, Kamakshi Temple, and Kailasanatha Temple. Overnight in Mahabalipuram.
Day 03 Sightseeing of Mahabalipuram
After breakfast, proceed for sightseeing of Mahabalipuram, evening at leisure. Mahabalipuram, also known as Mamallapuram, it is an ancient historic town and was a bustling seaport. By the 7th Century it was a Port city of South Indian dynasty of the Pallavas. It has various historic monuments built largely between the 7th and the 9th centuries, and has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Overnight at Mahabalipuram
Day 04 Mahabalipuram – Chidambaram – Kumbakonam (240 kms / approx. 05 hours)
After breakfast, proceed to Kumbakonam enroute visit Chidambaram Nataraja temple & Gangaikonda Cholapuram. Chidambaram is one of the five holiest Shiva temples, each representing one of the five natural elements; Chidambaram represents akasha (aether). A unique feature of this temple is the bejeweled image of Nataraja. It depicts the Lord Shiva as the Lord of the dance Bharatanatyam and is one of the few temples where Shiva is represented by an anthropomorphic murthi rather than the classic, anionic Lingam. It is a replica of the Brihadeeswara temple at Thanjavur built by his father. There are many beautiful sculptures on the walls of the temple and its enclosures. It was built in commemoration of his victory over the kingdom abutting the Ganges. Overnight at Kumbakonam
Day 05 Kumbakonam – Tanjore - Karaikudi (165 kms / approx. 3.5 hours)
After breakfast, visit Kumbeswarar temple & proceed to Tanjore to Visit Brihadeeswar temple later proceed to Karaikudi. The Peruvudaiyar Kovil, also known as Brihadeeswara Temple, RajaRajeswara Temple and Rajarajeswaram, at Thanjavur is a Hindu temple dedicated to Shiva and an art of the work achieved by Cholas in Tamil architecture. The temple is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site "Great Living Chola Temples". This is the largest temple in India and one of India's most prized architectural sites. There is a big statue of Nandi (sacred bull), carved out of a single rock, at the entrance measuring about 16 feet long and 13 feet high.Built in 1010 AD by Raja Raja Chola I in Thanjavur, Brihadeeswarar Temple, also popularly known as the ‘Big Temple', turned 1000 years old in 2010. Darasuram or Dharasuram is known for the Airavateswara temple constructed by the Rajaraja Chola II in the 12th century AD. The temple is a recognized UNESCO World Heritage monument. Later, continue your drive to Karaikudi. Check in at the hotel day at leisure. Overnight at Karaikudi.
Day 06 Karaikudi – Madurai (75 kms / approx. 1.5 hours)
After breakfast, proceed to Madurai on arrival check in at the hotel day at leisure. Alternatively, you can explore the local markets in Madurai. Overnight at Madurai.
Day 07 Sightseeing in Madurai
Visit the Meenakshi Temple, Gandhi Memorial Museum, Tirumalai Nayak and Koodal Azhagar Temple. In the evening, re-visit the Meenakshi Temple to witness the evening prayer ceremony at the temple. (Optional) – Ramanathaswamy Temple - Rameshwaram Jyotirlinga is one of the 12 Jyotirlinga of God Shiva. Overnight in Madurai.
Day 08 Madurai – Trichy (135 kms / approx. 2.5 hours)
After breakfast, proceed to Trichey on arrival check in at the hotel. Later, proceed for the visit of Trichey covering Srirangam, Rock Fort and Thiruvanaikkaval temple. Rest of the day free at leisure Overnight at Trichey.
Day 09 Trichy – Chennai (330 kms / approx. 6 hours)
After breakfast check out of the hotel proceed to Chennai, on arrival check in at the hotel. Day free at leisure. Overnight at Chennai.
Day 10 Sightseeing in Chennai
Explore Chennai- Visit Fort St George, St. Mary's Church and a museum, Kapeeleshwara Temple, San Thome Cathedral, Government State Museum & National Art Gallery. Drive past Marina Beach, the second longest beach in the world. Overnight in Chennai.
Day 11 Departure from Chennai
Today you will be transferred to the airport for your onward flight
